femvox

For some reason, since I moved from Texas, I have been listening to more female songwriters. Here are the few who have really spent a lot of time in my head phones recently.

Kaki King

The day after I had first heard Kaki King's instrumental work, I was outside of Public Assembly talking to Amber. Nextdoor, I noticed that the headliner for the night was Kaki King. I was immediately excited but didnt have $25. Rumor has it she used to live in 248 McKibbin, which is just down the street. Her insane slap and tap style is something I would love to see in person.

Cat Power

While deep in the fog and rain of Seattle, Morgan played "The Greatest" which had just been released at the time. I remember thinking "I need to DL some of this when I get home". I never did. Almost three years later, Chan Marshall snuck into my head by way of a mix CD. She has a massively epic voice that I sometimes feel carries the more mediocre songs along. ("Cross Bones Style" is seriously a boring song without her voice). The vid above is from the album "You Are Free".

Tegan and Sara

So it was like, August. Justin French was going through a break up and sending out heart break song videos. One of them was an acoustic version of "nineteen". I fell in love. T&S songs are so well structured, so naturally poppy that they're completely addicting. Add their awesome voices on top of that, and you have... well... some tunes that will be stuck in your head for a while. I have yet to hear all of "So Jealous", "If it was You" etc.. so my opinion of them is based purely off of random songs and the whole of "The Con"

I've been sick the past few days.
My head hurts.
